Join us for a session learning to play the steel pan drums at Havens Community Centre on Saturday the 27th of August! Prior to being taught how to play the steel pan, Josephine Melville will give a brief discussion on the history of the instrument and what the Steel Here Band do. Steel Here are Southend City’s first Community Steel Pan Band. The formation of the Steel Here Pan Band came out of workshops that were created by The South Essex African Caribbean Association (SEACA) and initially funded by Essex Community Foundation (ECF) to encourage young people to come out and socialise, make new friends to improve their wellbeing. The workshops now continue every Saturday, currently with members ranging from ages 7 all the way to 78, and continue to welcome new members.
